AT in Stokes State Forest Closed Temporarily Owing to Bear Incident

Due to an ongoing NJ Div. Fish and Wildlife operation to locate a bear that attacked two campers and is reported to have been shot (not fatally) by officials, nine miles of the Appalachian Trail in Stokes State Forest is closed (from U.S. 206/Culvers Gap north to Deckertown Turnpike). This closure includes all intersecting trails and will remain closed until further notice.
 

Reroute/detour info:

Trail re-route directions/shuttle info: Take 206 North to Flatbrook Road. Make right on Flatbrook Rd. Flatbrook road will turn into Grau Rd, at end of Grau Road make a left on Crigger Rd. follow Crigger Rd. to Deckertown Turnpike. Make right on Deckertown and follow 3.5 miles to the A.T. crossing near the Mashipacong shelter. (Total distance: approximately 9.5 miles). Park staff is available to provide shuttle service during the hours of 10:00am and 6:00pm. For further information please contact Stokes State Forest at 973-948-3820.
