A Nice Sequence of Views
This is a fine loop hike true to the description. Our October day brought us the beginnings of fall color all around - not yet peak, but plenty of color to enjoy. The sequence of views from the various rock outcrops point you in all directions, eventually, as you loop around and across the summit of the mountain. I liked that every view offered us a feeling of wilderness, as there was not a lot of human development visible. The east view was the best from the open rock face, and with a pair of binoculars we could see the larger crowd of hikers across the valley on the summit of Wyanokie High Point. Nature also provided many birds of prey soaring in the thermals around the mountain. This is a moderate hike, with a few tricky spots at stone faces where a hands-down effort is required, but otherwise a regular ascent and descent. The first bit of the hike on the road is a small annoyance, but once you turn into the woods, this is a nice footpath all the way. The trails are well blazed and the intersections clearly marked. As a previous hiker reported, this is a good loop when time is short.
