With the start of early bowhunting season, outdoor recreationists should be aware of hunting season schedules and areas where hunting is permitted when choosing where to explore in the greater New York metropolitan region. We've compiled a list of our top 10 no-hunting hike areas. 

Remember: It's always a good idea to wear bright colors when in the woods during hunting season, no matter where you go!

Trail Supervisors are a key part of the Trail Conference. They are the boots on the ground that oversee a team of Trail Maintainers and ensure the trails in their assigned area are cared for and in good condition. Without our Trail Supervisors, we couldn’t maintain over 2,000 miles of trails so that the public has a safe and positive experience outdoors.

We are looking for Trail Supervisors to oversee the following parks:

New York Catskills
– Belleayre Region: Oversees trails in the Big Indian Wilderness
– Hunter-West Kill: Oversees trails in the Hunter-West Kill Wilderness

Trail Maintainers are the boots on the ground who ensure that our trails are clear and safe for trail users to enjoy. When you adopt a trail you are assigned a 1 to 2 mile section. We ask that you visit your section a minimum of 2 times each year to clear, re-blaze and report on, although it is encouraged to visit 3 to 4 times per year. 

We are looking for Trail Maintainers for the following trails:

New York Catskills
– Big Indian Wilderness: Pine Hill West Branch Trail
– Slide Mountain Wilderness: Long Path, Burroughs Range Trail, and Phoenicia-East Branch Trail
– Platte Clove Preserve: Long Path/Overlook Trail

Due to recent rail corridor crossing closures in Schunemunk State Park, our volunteers, in coordination with park staff, have made some trail blaze changes. This map outlines the changes made to the trail system.
