Following the advice of national and local health experts, the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference has made the decision to reopen outdoor individual volunteer activities including Invasives Strike Force surveying! While this is certainly exciting news for many of our volunteers, there are some important changes to our protocols that we need to relay before the survey season can fully kick into gear. First, we recommend maintaining physical distancing at all times on the trail and at the trailhead–even if that means you are consistently the person to step off and provide space. Secondly, it is highly recommended you wear a mask whenever others are present while performing individual survey work. Above all, put the safety of yourself, others, and the community as a whole first. You shouldn't feel any pressure to resume volunteering if you are not ready to do so and NO requirements are being made of anyone. Always consider the health of yourself and your loved ones first–the trails will still be there when you’re ready. Remember: We are all in this together and must take care of one another.
Our Conservation Corps Crews will also be starting on June 18. While the field season for our respective crews will have many modifications from years past, we are excited to continue our important work to protect native habitats from the threat posed by invasive species.
Last, but certainly not least, the Trail Conference has recently released a statement to address the injustice faced by Black communities across America and the role of the Trail Conference in moving forward to focus on listening, learning, reflecting and enacting change for the betterment of society. Please take the time to read and reflect on "We Have Work to Do". We welcome your comments and suggestions, as always. |
