Park Description:

The 570-acre Shaupeneak Ridge Cooperative Recreation Area includes a portion of the ridge line of the Marlboro Mountains, with a viewpoint over the Hudson River.
Trails Overview:

There are four major trails each of which is about 1.5 miles long. 

  • Accessed from the upper parking lot, the Blue Trail and Red Trail can be combined to form a 2.6-mile loop, with relatively little elevation gain - and two overlooks of the Hudson River.
  • Those who are looking for a more ambitious excursion can take a 5.7-mile loop hike covering most of the trails in the preserve, with an elevation gain of about 700 feet.  It starts from the lower parking lot at the White Trail. Directions:

Take US 9W north 5.8 miles from its intersection with NY 299 and turn left [west] onto Old Post Road.  The lower parking lot is 0.2 mile from US 9W, on the right side of the road.  The upper parking area is 2.5 miles from US 9W, on the left side of Poppletown Road.  See the trail map on the park's web site [Contact Information below] for parking areas.
