| Park Description: | A gift to the city by John D. Rockefeller in 1917, Fort Tryon Park has beautiful views across the Hudson to the Palisades in New Jersey, which were bought by John D Rockefeller to preserve the quality of the view from Fort Tryon. The park is home to The Cloisters, a reconstructed medieval monastery housing medieval art from The Metropolitan Museum. There are miles of paths, a large dog run, playgrounds, a beautiful garden and a lovely restaurant. |
| Trails Overview: | The park fits a surprising number of trail miles into a small acreage. Most of the trails are paved, but many are steep since the park slopes from close to the river to one of the highest points on the island. |
| Directions: | Accessible from Broadway between 192nd and Dyckman Streets, several city buses, and the A line of the subway. There is also an exit for the park off the Henry Hudson Parkway. |
