DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|
| Book Field-checker |
Help update the material in a new or revised book by visiting parks and hiking the trails. |
| Corridor Manager | This is an exciting job for someone who has AT corridor boundary monitoring and maintenance experience. Supervise boundary monitors, coordinate semi-annual reporting, work with the monitors to maintain neighbor and government contacts, work with the local management committee to stop illegal boundary activities, environmental impacts and assess the impact of neighboring developments. |
| Corridor Monitor |
Trail Corridor Monitors monitor the boundaries of a section of the AT trail lands, maintaining boundary markings and reporting conditions to the land managers. |
| Crew Chief Assistant | Are you not inclined to do the heavy work of trail building but would like to support our trail crews? Here is an opportunity to become an important part of building and repairing our hiking trails by becoming a Trail Crew Chief Assistant. The work will involve contacting prospective recruits for the crew, keeping records of the work done and the people who volunteered, as well as other duties as requested by the Trail Crew Chief. If you’re comfortable working with people, have some organizational skills and time during the spring, summer and fall, then this kind of work could be just right for you. |
| Field-checker |
Provide the data and information required to document trails, parks and other areas. |
| Hike Writers |
Write descriptions of hikes in selected regions to add to our website. You need to enjoy hiking and be willing to carefully document routes, features, and take photos. Work doesn't get more fun than this! |
| Invasives Strike Force Volunteer |
Help monitor invasive plants along hiking trails in the park of your choice. |
| Lean-to / Shelter Caretaker |
If you have had the opportunity to appreciate the shelter provided by one of the Catskill or AT lean-to shelters, then you might like to consider adopting one. Shelter or lean-to caretakers adopt a shelter usually in the Catskills or on the Appalachian Trail. |
| Regional Trail Coordinator | Oversee the trails in a region for one of our member clubs. |
| Trail Chair |
Oversee a specific region within our trail network. |
| Trail Crew Chief |
Supervise volunteer crew members on work trips to repair or build trails. Projects include but are not limited to: bridge building, rock work, and trail construction and design. Training is available. |
| Trail Crew Leader |
Lead volunteer crew members on work trips to repair or build trails. Projects include but are not limited to bridge building, rock work, and trail construction and design. Training is available. |
| Trail Maintainer |
Considering that the Trail Conference has over 1,700 miles of hiking trails to maintain, it is not surprising that trail maintainers are the majority of our volunteers. Maintaining a trail is often the first job people think of when they want to volunteer. Trail maintainers make it possible to hike. |
| Trail Supervisor |
Make personal contact with each maintainer, to motivate and appreciate their volunteer contributions in a positive manner. Help cultivate a pleasant and rewarding volunteer experience. |
